Dr. Edward James III, DSW, MSW, ACSW, LMSW, MPM

Dr. Edward L. James, III has completed academic studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Carnegie-Mellon University, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and most recently the certificate program in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Building A Diverse Workforce, Cornell University. He is certified and licensed as a master social worker, in Arizona
and Pennsylvania and studied marriage and family therapy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Chicago, Illinois and Georgetown, Washington DC. He has held faculty appointments with Arizona State University and Maricopa County Community Colleges since 1994, concentration in social work service delivery systems and administration.

Dr. James is the principal consultant with Edward L. James, III & Associates, LLC, concentrating in the area of non-profit board development, leadership training, organizational development mission, vision and values and advancing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging. He has served on a variety of board of directors in the Phoenix metropolitan area. He has a clinical and research interest and is a community activist in the area of men’s health, particularly in the BIPOC communities. He has participated in national conversations incorporating both a grassroots and a broader national public policy perspective. He has been guest speakers on radio and television programs, at seminars and conferences in an effort to bring men’s health issues to the forefront. Dr. James also has a concentration in the area of suicide prevention, intervention and postvention in the BIPOC communities. His most recent guest presentation, “Suicide in the Black, Indigenous and People of Color Communities: An Upstream Perspective of Social Determinants” was presented at the American Association of Suicidology national conference, 2022.

Dr. James is a 10 year military veteran servicing four years U.S. Navy [hospital corpsman/combat medic] and ten years U.S. Army [commissioned social worker].
